How Soul Weathered Came to Be

I’ve been writing all my life. I can remember writing out thoughts and ideas that came to men in songs, poems and letters. Once I became an adult in my late thirties and forties I to think and talk about writing a book. In fact many said that I should—something that would capture what I was learning about faith, about purpose, about being a man who’s trying to walk with God in everyday life.
So a few years ago, I began working on a different book called The God Adventure. As I dove into that project, I went back through my journals—and that’s when something shifted.
I started reading entries from years ago—moments I’d captured, raw reflections about parenting, about financial stress, about hearing God in the middle of a busy week, or sitting beside one of my kids when they were sick. These weren’t polished sermons or big lessons—they were just me, trying to figure out life with God one step at a time.
And as I read those pages, I realized there was something there—something honest that other men might need to hear. So, I set aside The God Adventure for a season, and I began writing Soul Weathered—not as a polished answer to life’s questions, but as a collection of real moments, where faith met everyday struggle.
That’s what this book is. It’s not a formula; it’s a record of learning how to walk with God when life isn’t clean, when answers don’t come easily, and when the next step is just one step of faith.
If you’re a man who knows there’s more but aren’t sure how to get there—you’re not alone. That’s how Soul Weathered came to be.
